Bury Mini Club is holding a sixth Suffolk Run on Sunday 18th April 2010

Last year’s run had 99 minis making the trip through the Suffolk countryside from Bury St Edmunds to Aldeburgh. All enjoyed the run, both the participants and the hundreds of people who took great delight looking at the gleaming cars parked on Aldeburgh sea front. There were prizes for best turned out and loads of draw prizes. The club raised £250 for the Aldeburgh Combined Charities and £700 for the Children’s Ward at the West Suffolk Hospital. That makes over £2,400 raised in total over the last 5 years.

The burger van at the start of the runs also did a good trade and will be back this year. As last year, the sixth Suffolk Run will start in Bury St Edmunds with vehicles being on display over lunch time in Aldeburgh on the Suffolk coast and returning home at their leisure.

We are hoping to have the magic 100 minis this year and all will start from the Ram Meadow car park in Bury St Edmunds and will leave at one minute intervals from 10.00am. They will take a leisurely 70 mile route this year through the Suffolk countryside before parking up on the Aldeburgh sea front.

This means that the early starters will arrive at Aldeburgh at about 12.00 noon and the last mini to leave Bury St Edmunds (at 11.30am) should arrive at Aldeburgh at about 1.15pm.  Details of lunch time refreshments will be given in the confirmation letter, with telephone numbers if you wish to book a meal in advance, together with the whereabouts of the highly reputable fish and chip shops.

All minis will be carefully parked in Aldeburgh next to the historic Moot Hall and there will be marshals to ensure this is done in such a manner that any passers-by can marvel at the assembled machinery. The intention is to display the vehicles over the lunch time period and the minis can leave from Aldeburgh for home at any time after the draw at 2.00pm.

Details of the choice of starting times and requirements for insurance purposes will be shown on the application forms, which are available by ringing Richard Mortlock on 01284 766731 or 07885 420973 or by looking on our website www.buryminiclub.co.uk and clicking on the link. The cost of the run is STILL only £15 per mini (this is non-refundable) and will need to be sent with the completed application from, together with a stamped addressed envelope  for the starting instructions.  Route books and plaques will be issued on the day and a finishing memento awaits those who complete the run. This time, as last year, there will be an observation competition on the journey with a £25 cash prize for the winners. Again details will be in the route book.

There will be the usual sponsored draw and money will again be donated to our chosen charity, the Children’s Rainbow Ward at the West Suffolk Hospital and the Aldeburgh Combined Charities.  Book early to avoid disappointment!
